This project will characterize xylem cell development and its underlying regulatory networks in several plant species including Arabidopsis thaliana, Solanum lycopersicum, Solanum pennellii and Sorghum bicolor. Links will be made between the transcriptional regulation of these cell types to the secondary cell wall modifications that ensure transport over long distances and which change in response to the environment.
